Michigan Hooters Waitress Too Fat?

Wearing a size extra small you wouldn’t think Cassandra Smith would be told to lose weight or her job. Working for the past 2 years in the Hooters in Roseville, Mich., just a short distance from where I live it doesn’t really surprise me that a story like this has come out. What I am happy to hear about is how she is not taking this sitting down.

The Elliott-Larsen civil rights act is clearly written to show that being told to lose weight or be fired was discrimination.

37.2102 Recognition and declaration of civil right; action arising out of discrimination based
on sex or familial status.
Sec. 102. (1) The opportunity to obtain employment, housing and other real estate, and the full and equal utilization of public accommodations, public service, and educational facilities without discrimination because of religion, race, color, national origin, age, sex, height, weight, familial status, or marital status as prohibited by this act, is recognized and declared to be a civil right.
